Graph Expo 2014 Digital Press Review

Posted on by Dave Erlandson | 2 Comments »

For those of us who have been to a few Graph Expo’s the first thing we noticed as we walked in was the registration area was in the Heidelberg booth, well not really in the Heidelberg booth, but in the space where the Heidelberg booth used to be, which means the footprint of the show was smaller yet again.  I never did get used to this change as I kept trying to show my badge to the wrong folks as I walked in.

As usual I came to see the new digital presses for production printing,( not labels); and I’ve put together a PowerPoint presentation that highlights the new presses at the show.  I was comparing this to last year’s show (Print 13) and I noticed there were fewer digital presses on display this year.

Last year all the talk was Inkjet and B2.  This year most of the new products were light or mid production color cutsheet presses with A3 size sheets and are toner based.  There were new light production presses from Canon, Ricoh, and Xerox.  There were new mid production presses from Konica Minolta, MGI, Ricoh, and Xerox.  And Ricoh launched a new heavy duty color digital press the Pro C9110.

Ricoh also launched a new high speed color continuous feed press for the graphics market: VC 60000. So it was quite a show for Ricoh.

The tables below shows the color digital presses I saw at the show. A PowerPoint with photos and the major specifications for the new presses that are 60+ ppm is available in PODi’s Production Resources (free for all users).

The only B2 presses at the show were Indigos: the Indigo 10000, of which HP has placed over 100 units and the new HP 30000 for the folding carton/packaging market.

Navid,

My sources tell me that we should expect to see pricing for the new C9110 in the April timeframe.
